Knox Trail Council

Information About
The Knox Trail Council

The Knox Trail Council was created through the merger of the Algonquin and Norumbega councils in 1996. The new council serves 21 communities in the metro-west region of Boston.

The council was named after the Revolutionary war hero General Henry Knox and the route he traveled when he brought cannons from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston in the winter of 1775-1776.

Knox traveled through many of the towns that make up the council. General Washington used the cannons to bombard the British fleet in Boston Harbor. The British eventually fled Boston on March 17, 1776. This day is celebrated as "Evacuation Day" in Massachusetts.
